@Zabin: CC0 is do whatever you like. Mixing CC0 and CC-BY will allow you to do whatever you like with it as long as *you* credit the CC-BY author. CC-BY-SA is a viral license, any derivative works containing CC-BY-SA license should be licensed by CC-BY-SA.

Derivative works of CC-By can be licensed as CC-By-SA, however, it would be kind to use the original license.

riidom, good idea, but even it can be better. Only two quads per chain would be enough (he doesn't have backface culling or he is fixing them). One face will be perpendicular to the other.

Most logos are in public domain. Text and simple shapes does not have enough creative content to be copyright protected (see Wiki for details). They are protected by trademark laws not copyright. Therefore, pd clipart is perfectly suited for the task. In addition, you can keep the copyright of the modified logo.
