This is one reason I love pixel art.  No formatting issues!  Just don't ever use .jpg, and you're golden.

Yeah, this spider is an epic win.  Fantastic work, Nubux!

I was quite excited when this general idea was first brought up.  I feel like this would be more useful, and does really have the potential to encourage the sort of collaboration which could add a lot of value to the site.  I have, for instance, had a lot of fun working with Blarumyrran's and Antifarea's works, and it would be neat for that sort of thing to be encouraged.

I do wonder, though, whether there will come a time when hand-assigning art will become logistically difficult (though the results would definitely be better).

Well, similarly, a Windows user like me is unlikely to want to spend a lot of time on a linux-only project.  It's certainly an important thing to consider, though, since I suspect a relatively large proportion of the population here are linux users.

Well, at least not random chunks of assets.  If they could be gathered in such a way as to be generally useful to a variety of projects that would be good.

If I were you, I would just tile four of them together and use the center rectangle.  It should still tile fine.

Why do half of the FOSS type games I've heard of seem to be RTSes?  It's a little frustrating for me, not being a big fan of the genre...

On the one hand, this would probably be very convenient for projects.  On the other hand, it seems like it would add a fair amount of logistical work for the artist beyond the standard formatting, which is something of a pain--just doing simply image masks is a pain and adds a fair amount of time onto a piece.

I do have to agree with clrg.  While this is clearly an awesome model, I do wonder what sort of project would be able to make use of it.  But, then again, I really have little to no experience in 3-D game developement, so yeah.

This is true!  But in American colloquial English, an opossum is often referred to as a " 'possum "(c.f. The 'Coon, the 'Possum and the Old Black Crow from the Hollow Tree stories.)  "Awesome Possum" is also American colloquial english for "awesome."

Though, looking back, "Awesome Possum" may be trademarked due to an (awful) game made under the same name, so perhaps referring to him as the "Awesome Opossum" would be salutory.
