I use gandi.net for DNS and ChicagoVPS for my micro VPS ( very small 128MB ram, 10GB HD, 100GB bandwidth, $12 a year). nginx to the rescue. That and serving static html only.

I would also considered Dwolla for payment processing. I doesn't allow credit cards so fees are really low. IIRC transfers less then $10 are free, all others are are $0.25 fee to the reciever. The only downside is that it is US only right now.

By chance have you looked at the hex tiles from freeciv?

They should at least provide a good base as they have every land type you mentioned and more. I'm not sure they are the correct size though.

Very Nice. I love the overall feeling of the design. I do have a few small issues with the pose. I don't know a single archer who would shoot their bow "gangsta" style i.e. on the side like that. Second the fingering on the arrow hand is wrong, archers use two fingers one on top and bottom of nock to ensure proper aim. That said these issues could just be a character quirk.

I have zero 3D design experience, but I can help on the planning side.

If this is going to be done we need:

  1. Name the Project
  2. Style Guide ( this has help both the Tango Project and LPC). Very few will use a set of mechs or parts that don't look like they belong togather. No one likes double work. Their may be two or more factions with different styles later but focusing on one to start is good.
  3. Decide what to make first. Here I think the best order is to design couplers for joints, parts and weapon mounts. Then move onto designing weapons, body parts, etc. Making the parts from a standard base means more variety. Texturing and rigging.
  4. Get Git/Whatever for versioning, figure out if there is an easy way to diff blend/collada files.
  5. Repeat until finished.

What name should the workshop go by? OverGeared, Mechland, RobotWarrior, ... What should a Style Guide Include? You tell me. git should look something like

  • concept
  • inprogress
  • finished
  •     couplers
  •     parts
  •     weapons
  •     bodies
  •           head
  •           torso
  •           arms
  •           feet
  •           pelvis

Sounds like a fun project. Having a great looking Mech Warrior/Commander like game that doesn't use IP we don't own would be nice. Hope we can get it off the ground.

rekonq plays ogg fine on wiki commons.

Works now with the timeout for ogg, though the timeout seems to be variable.

Also i shouldn't be able to walk on water.
