here we are just past the half way point!, I'm enjoying seeing what everyone else is up to. 104 participants we have in the jam so far, we may see a few more enter nearer the end, i wonder whether 2 weeks will be enough time for voting? not sure I can change it now.:).
Keep up the great work everyone1
heres where I'm at:
have started doing some choice options. ive breifly done a title screen and begun work on an inventory. i do think i may of biten off more than i can chew on this, but hey ho, il do what i can. more conversations still need writing and some minor placement for this first scene which is nearly done. the real work is at the next scene. Im leaving animations till last i think, if i get time il do them nearer the end i will.
@andrewj thats great stuff, and i get what you mean about the enemys.
i think so much can come out of this game jam, not only will we get to see some fantastic stuff produced using the assets already here, but it has highlighted what OGA doesn't have in assets and gives a perfect opportunity for artists here to create and make them available. I have been surprised by assets i thought would be here as a given, but i couldn't find em. :)
For me, the jam has turned the traditional game jam on its head. Where a game would be created or inspired by the theme or programmers preference. Here the assets are the object of the jam and it seems more that the games are decided on what assets are available, or that they have been inspired by the assets themselves.
First week in and with just over 100 participants, its exciting to see the jam doing so well, and from what i have seen so far, there are some really good looking stuff already!
Keep up the good work everyone, and remember, do not worry if you don't finish, still submit, just make it playable, even if it only last 30 seconds, we wanna see the assets used!
Theres still about 3 weeks left of the jam, so dont over work yourselves. take a break. :)
had a go, controls seem unstable, i get it the idea, maybe im missing something, but i found it unplayable. everytime i click the mouse it just kept starting a new level until the wizard appeared. :)
I have updated the game and added/ fixed some issues.
updated:
* you can now throw hostages and vehicles at ALL floors and buildings.
(this was only working on some not all)
*Monster takes damage and Game Over screen.
(monster took no damage or did but nothing happened.)
*Monster regains health when eating hostages.
(yum yum)
*You can now control the hands independently using A,S,D & L buttons.
(i have taken note of your comments on the controls, and i'm hoping this will feel a bit better whilst playing. you can still click the arms as before if you prefered it that way, but now you can do either. The buttons are not set in stone, these were suggested by a member of OGA, i may consider letting the player choose which buttons to use in another update.)
* No longer need to click the hands when performing a smash or grab move, You just click the buildings or the floor tiles. this is now only necessary when holding a hostage or vehicle.
( excessive selecting arms and clicking targets was annoying, so the above update should resolve this, but it is still neccesary to click an arm when holding a hostage or vehicle, so you can target what you want to do with it, i feel this would be a more acceptable behavoiur to take from the player. or you can use the new button control)
* Level doesn't crash on level 6, it will now just repeat level 5 until I start creating the other levels.
(it crashed on level 6, and just did its own thing, now it will just loop back to level 5 so you can keep playing, at least until i sort the rest of the levels out.)
* Level transition added when a level completed.
( the screen moves to one side and then starts the next level instead of just jumping right unto the next one.)
* Space bar will restart the game.
(think this was already there in there)
*Slight improvement to the movement of attached arms.
( i have tried to make the arms move better. Although its an improvement its still not the best. This is one of the games biggest achillies heels for me, and its a bit beyond my programming capabilities, so i will have to accept that it is what it is. I have spent months poking about with it, and i'd much rather focus the time on getting the game towards a finishing line.)
Thanks for all your comments everyone, I appreciate your feedback and the time you take to play.
@capbros, go for it! would love to see what you create. :)
i love point and click games and im taking this opportunity in the jam to try and create one. Been playing around today with some dialog and putting all the artwork in place ready for some code. still much to do. but heres a shot of the progress.
We have had our first submission to the jam, however I have removed it as it was only an asset for sale.
just a note really, anything that appears on the jam that is not within the spirit of things i will remove. I got nothing against the art work that was placed, but considering the jam is about using already created assets i felt this was nothing more than someone looking to plug and sell there assets. if there are anyone creating assets for the jam then i would ask you to post and submit to OGA and not the jam itself please. It probably was not anyonr from OGA anyway, but still i thought i would mention it.
i dont know then im afraid, i have never worked with MS Edge. maybe attach a link to the asset here and maybe someone with a bit of knowledge on MS Edge may come long and help, perhaps the file format isnt suitable maybe, i dont really know. im sorry i cant be any more help. :)

this jam doesn't end until the 29th, so there will still be some time to create something after your comp ends on the 16th. :)
