Ah, I see them. Thanks. I'll investigate.

Unable to replicate the issue with the given instructions. Went through to page 10 without seeing any obvioius duplicates: https://opengameart.org/art-search-advanced?field_art_tags_tid=Fantasy&f...

However, when I hit 'last' then 'previous' to go to the page before the last one, I did notice some listings showed up on both the last and 2nd-to-last page, but I believe this is because the last page doesn't have enough items to fill the full page, so there is some overlap between the two. Are you seeing duplicate listings beyond this? If so, can you proivde a URL containing the parameters (like the one above)?

@_thebeastKid_: https://opengameart.org/content/faq#q-proprietary let me know if that does not answer your question, I'll be happy to provide more details. :)

Ok. I've looked through all the links. Thanks for including those.

The common license for all these assets is CC-BY-SA. Some of them have more permissive licenses than CC-BY-SA, but since that license is common to all of them (via dual licensing or relicensing) that is the license I will be focusing on to make sure you're compliant.

In order to sell your game (commercial use) and keep it closed source, you need to make sure you're doing the following:

  1. Give proper attribution. This means including the Asset name, the Author name, the License(s), and the URL to where you got the asset from. Using the "Download Credits File" feature you suggested above and listing the contents of the file in your credits screen and your credits file should accomplish this. The information in there has all of these features. :)
  2. You must make all the assets available to your customers for free. You don't have to give them your source code or make your game free, but you do have to give them an easy way to extract/download the assets you listed above, and those assets must be available for free, even if the game itself is not. The players have to be able to click on something in your game that gives them a package of all the assets in question or allows them to open a folder in the game files where they can get to the asset files. The files can't be obfuscated or encrypted; they have to be in a usable format. packing them up in a .zip file is fine, though, as long as it doesn't require a password.
  3. There are some issues with some of the assets you listed. You'll need to make sure they're resolved before you're "In the clear":
  • Some of the assets you listed above link to the author's page instead of the specific asset you're planning to use. I can't verify if these are kosher or not because I don't know which of the author's assets you're referring to. For example https://opengameart.org/users/emerald
  • Some of the assets you listed above link to a non-OGA page. I cannot verify if these are kosher or not because there is no clear indication of licensing or attribution on such pages. For example: http://darkwalllke.com/ or https://bitbucket.org/tebruno99/pixelfarm/src/master/Graphics/
  • One asset you linked to has a known licensing issue and it should not be used: https://opengameart.org/content/lpc-street-lamp You should remove or replace these assets immediately. They cannot be legally used in your game.
  • There are a few assets you have not listed links for, still. These are toward the end of your list above. It's possible they're just referenced twice and the second time doesn't have a link, but I can't actually verify this because, well, the link is missing :P You'll want to make sure they're ok to use.

I know this is complicated. Unfortunately, there is no way around that. We will do our best to help you understand everything, though. You've got a great start, and if you're able to make sure all of the stuff I mentioned is taken care of, you'll be able to sell your game with no issues. :)  Let us know what your questions are and we'll address them one at a time. :)

You did NOT post all the details in the question. There is information missing.

Post a list of links to all the OGA assets you plan to use.

The list above doesn't have links on all of them. We need links to all of them in order to help you.

I don't know yet. As i said, you need to show us what those details are before we can determine if you're in the clear or not.

It is definitely a good way to format everything like i was saying, but we still need to look at the information before we can answer your questions.

As long as the artists attribution instructions don't say otherwise, you should be able to group assets by artist, but you must indicate the license even if it means the credit screen will look messy. Indicating the license is not optional.

For now, please list the link and license to every asset in your list above. It doesn't necessarily have to be in your game that way, but we can't determine if you're in the clear or not without you telling us that information first.

I strongly recommend using the format i indicated above for every single asset used in your game. Even if the credits screen will need tweaking.

Firstly, let me say that game looks pretty sweet. Is it already on steam or somewhere we can try it out? I'd love to play it (or even a demo :)

As for the license, commercial-status, and closed-source status goes: For the most part, all licenses on OGA allow you to use the art in a commercial game. I say "for the most part" because it partly depends on how you've set up your asset collections and if the technology you've used imposes some form of Digital Rights Management.

A lot of these questions can be answered based on the license on each asset you're using. To start, let's adjust your attribution informatin. You've already listed all the assets you've used above. That's great, but it's a good idea to have all of the following things for each asset's attribution:

  1. The asset name (you have this listed already)
  2. The author's name (you have this on most of them, but you really need it on all of them. Listing "OpenGameArt.org" is not really sufficient)
  3. The license(s) of the asset (I don't see this on any of the stuff in your list. We need to know this information to determine how to keep your game commercial, closed-source, and legal)
  4. The URL to the asset (You have this listed for some, but not all. It's a good idea to always include the URL to the asset even if it isn't required by the author. It helps in situations like this where we need to look at more specific information about an asset)

See if you can list each of the above attributions in the format shown in the FAQ: https://opengameart.org/content/faq#q-how-to-credit

Once that's done, we should be able to work out the rest. :) The good news is, in all likelihood, you will still be able to sell your game (commercial use) on steam or wherever. No promises yet, though.
