His IP was never shared. Only compared to existing logs, which was before his account was deleted. The IP address log was deleted along with his account. I was not aware of any other duion submissions still present. Again, I had to rely on Duion to tell me where they were. I'll work on deleting this latest list and, if I come across others, I'll proactively remove those per his request. However, it is a manual process so it takes some time.

To reiterate, comments will not be removed. They contain no personal information. Deleting comments that are part of existing disussions damages the integrity of those records.

@Boruvkov: Also, "acting as a correspondence" qualifies as an alias account. You may post once more as a surrogate without repercussions. After that, any posts, edits, or action "on behalf of duion" will result in your ban as well. Make that last post count. Get all the information in that you need. It's not going to be allowed after that. You have not posted anything offensive or insulting on duions behalf. I appreciate that. You are responsible for your own account even when acting on other's behalf, so use judgment when relaying that last correspondence from duion. You will be accountable if you relay his incivility as well.

well, it isn't 2D, but this 3D model might get you started if you can prerender it into a 64x64 image: https://opengameart.org/content/wheelchair

Would that work until an artist joins in?

As for the oversaturated platformer market, maybe so, but any platformer that does something novel is going to be something worth playing... and I've never seen a platformer involving a wheelchair, so I'll certainly enjoy playing it when you've got a demo ready. :)

Looks like a lot has been discussed while I was finishing that up. Seems like Duion failed to understand (again) what I was saying. When I said "Don't bother responding. we're done." I was not saying "I'm stealing your content and posting as anonymous just to spite you!" I was saying "now that you've indicated everything you want deleted, there is no need for you to say anything else. We're done communicating. You can leave now."

@Duion: if you had bothered to look at the links you yourself indicated before going on this latest rant, you'd notice they were all deleted already long ago. Looks like a few other users noticed and even tried to tell you so. It was your own actions that made it take such a long time to remove the rest of your content. Yes, as you said, it would have been much easier and faster if you just requested deletion of your account OR clicked the deletion button on your submissions. The first would have been simplest, but requires an admin action. The latter requires no admin action since it is immediate and automatic. Instead, you changed all your submissions, without deleting them, to display what I can only assume was more of the same offensive and insulting nonsense we've seen here. I even see an indication in the system that the download files you replaced contained something suspicious or harmful. I don't know if you'd actually upload malware to your own submissions in some twisted attempt at a scorched earth policy (the files were "reverted" by the system before you sent your request for account deletion), but I'm afraid I no longer have enough faith left in your common decency to rule that out. As for the forum comments, those will have to stay in place. Not only do I have no way to track down all the anonymous comments (and it seems you don't know where they all are either), but deleting them undermines the conversations they are a part of. As much as I'd like to delete all the insulting nonsense you've said on the forum, it needs to remain to preserve the thread histories. Integral also for showing an uncensored version of events.

@everyone else: I apologize for the drama here. My intent was to grant duion the request for removal he made and allow us all to move on with our lives as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, that was dragged out much longer than anyone wanted. If anyone feels my actions were inappropriate or has questions about what happened or how OGA handles data privacy, I will do my best to answer.

@dimensionscape: "The admins here have to retain an image of civility, but I do not" As an admin, I certainly should be doing my best to retain an image of civility. Although my aggrivation with duion was apparent and did not live up to that standard, my actions were never done in malice. However, as an admin, I would request that everyone try to support an image of civility, even when others are being unreasonable. "Don't feed the trolls" as they say. After all, Duion was banned for being uncivil, albeit repeatedly and after ample opportunity to correct behavior.

He has not stopped being uncivil and continues to be insulting and rude. He was given multiple warnings before being banned, of course, but it still continues. I had hoped duion would take this opportunity to give his side of the story and say what he wanted to say without being "censored". Duion has indeed taken that opportunity, but only to show us why he was repeatedly banned in the past.

@Duion: The posts you've made from this new account have started out mostly-reasonable-if-not-accurate and have descended into a flame war of personal attacks. I have tried to give you as much time as possible for you to express any outstanding greivances. It has been over 2 days since you initated this thread with no restrictions on what you could say or how. If this is what you were aching to say when the admins "censored" your free speech, you have nothing to say that you haven't already said. As you claim, you have the right to be forgotten. Request granted: I will be excercising that right on your behalf: The Duion2 and all future alias accounts will be banned immediately.

For anyone wanting to understand the situation more, this is a timeline of the events as best as I could determine from the information available:

  1. Duion is rude, progressively becoming more insulting in forums and other people's submissions: [example] [example]
  2. Unacceptable behavior continues. Botanic provides a gentle reminder (hinting at duion) to keep conversation civil.
  3. Unacceptable behavior continues. Botanic issues ban warning to Duion directly. Offers to hear him out in PM or IRC
  4. Unacceptable behavior continues. Botanic bans Duion for 1 week. Reiterates offer to talk via PM or IRC.
  5. Unacceptable behavior continues. MedicineStorm bans Duion for 1 week again.
  6. Unacceptable behavior continues. MedicineStorm bans Duion for 1 week again. Indicates next ban will be perminant. Offers to listen to anything Duion would like to say via PM or IRC.
  7. Instead of requesting submission deletion (Duion used it before when a submission was accidentally duplicated, so duion knows the function is available and what it does) Duion modifies many (all?) of his submissions to display insulting text, suspicious links, and (possibly?) harmful download files. Duion is not banned or deleted at this time, but still does not contact an admin via PM, the forums, IRC, or email about a desire to not be associated with OGA or have information removed from the site.
  8. Site anti-spam system and/or users flag his altered submissions as suspicious. Control over the submissions is separated from the Duion account ("change reverted") to prevent the "hacker" from further damaging the compromized account(?)
  9. Duion contacts medicinestorm via site's removal request form. (weird how he found it so fast AFTER spending hours modifying his submissions)
  10. MedicineStorm verifies the IP addresses used by Duion as being the same as user Duion2, to ensure 3rd party is not spoofing.
  11. Per duion's request MedicineStorm deletes the Duion account. Unaware that some (all?) of the "suspicious" submissions were separated from duion's account. Account and personal information was erased, but separated submissions no longer had a parent account and were designated "anonymous".
  12. Conversation is continued in PM to Duion2 (see copy of conversation above)
  13. Duion indicates some submissions are still present but listed "anonymous".
  14. Since there is no parent account, there is no way to delete them all automatically or even find the user they're associated with. Each submission must be individually found and removed one at a time. There are other anonymous submissions in the archive unrelated to Duion, so caution was necessary.
  15. Duion believes (again) admins are corrupt, posts conspiracy of theft and censorship on forum (this thread)
  16. MedicineStorm loses patience, discontinues participation in the nonsense discussion while the remainder of the submissions are removed.
  17. Unacceptable behavior continues. Duion2 and all other alias accounts are banned perminantly.

Questions about this are welcome, disagreements with mine or others actions may be voiced, but if the conversation deteriorates and becomes uncivil after this I will have to lock the thread.

Wednesday, April 10, 2019 - 15:23

No, it really isn't illegal, actually; That would be censorship. Even if it were illegal, it would only take one of us to consent, and since you seem determined to air this publicly, I hereby consent to publicizing the conversation. It is also not illegal to publish works anonymously, accidentally or otherwise.

Yes it does seem that none of the data you submitted was deleted, just your personal profile and account details. That certainly wasn't intentional. My intent was that all your submitted data would be deleted with your account. However, as far as I can tell, other users or the anti-spam module flagged your account as suspicious or spam. I'm not the greatest expert on the framework, so I couldn't begin to tell you why that prevented your submissions and comments from being deleted. I can assure you I certainly don't have the patience to individually and manually change each submission and comment to "anonymous".

I didn't have any issue with you removing your submissions. As far as I'm concerned, you should be able to do with your work what you want, and I was perfectly willing to help with that, but *legally* (your primary concern, apparently), CC0 means you've dedicated it to the public. You can't make people stop using it. It is not illegal to publish CC0 works without credit nor permission. Again, that is not what was intended. I don't want to steal your work. I don't even care.

What I DO have an issue with, is you wasting my time, insulting me for it, then blaming me for the exact kind of twisted behavior that caused all this. If you or anyone else wants to help you with this, fine with me. I won't stop you, but I'm done being treated like a jerk for trying to help.

Wednesday, April 10, 2019 - 14:57

Oh, don't leave out the details :) tell the whole story:

I hereby request the deletion of my Opengameart account
https://opengameart.org/users/duion and all data associated with it.

According to data protection law I have the legal right to that. You don't
offer a method for that, so I just edited my contributions, but now since you
banned my account because of that, I want my account and all contributions
deleted, since I don't want to be associated with any of that anymore. I
write from a second account, since you do not provide any other way to
contact you.

MEDICINESTORM

Your duion account has been deleted. There are no contributions associted with you or your account. There may be derivatives uploaded by other users where you are mentioned as attribution. I cannot remove those unless there is a licensing conflict. Did you want to dispute the license or request takedown of any derivatives of your work?

We always take down art if the author requests it, even if the law doesn't obligate us to do so. See https://opengameart.org/content/faq#q-takedown

I don't know the circumstance of the disabling of your account this time (I re-enabled your account several weeks ago and have not seen you post since) but I assume one of the other admins had reason for it. I'm sorry to see you go and I'm sorry you never took me up on my offer to hear you out via PM.

I'm sure it's too late now, but for future reference, contributions can be taken down by clicking the "request deletion" button on the submission in quesiton. This will immediately remove the submission from the site, although you will still be able to view it from your own account. (it will have a black background instead of blue, and this is not the case with your "duion" submissions since the "duion" account has been deleted, not just blocked.)

As for account deletion, I don't know why there isn't a better option for requesting account removal. I'm sure we'll address that in OGA3. Other users have also had trouble with that as discussed here: https://opengameart.org/forumtopic/request-for-account-removal

and, as I said in that thread, I'll be happy to remove accounts upon request, just PM me. (Although I guess you were re-banned at the time and couldn't PM me?)

Did you want the duion2 account deleted as well?

Duion2 Apr 1 The "request deletion" button does not exist anymore and I will keep the duion2 for a while to communicate.
MEDICINESTORM Apr 1

The request deletion buttion is definitely still present. I even verified it from a non-admin account.

I'll leave your duion2 account then.

MEDICINESTORM Apr 1

Just FYI, I may only be leaving the duion2 account temporarily. I need to talk to the other admins about the purpose behind the most recent ban. If the ban was perminant, creating a secondary account doesn't innoculate you from the ban.

  Duion2 Apr 1
No does not look like this for me: https://duion.com/files/temp/doesnotexist.jpg

Someone is messing with me, which is the reason I don't want to be here anymore, I did not start the trouble.

MEDICINESTORM Apr 1

Duion, I respectfully disagree. I didn't ban you this time, but the reasons I banned you in the past was for starting trouble.

You were not banned because we wanted to censor you (your comments were left up at the time. If we wanted to censor you, why wouldn't we just delete your comments?)

You were not banned because you were spreading the truth and we didin't want to hear it.

You were banned because you were insulting, unconstructive, and starting trouble. You can believe you're the victim of abusive admins if you like, but ask anyone who's actually read the stuff you say to people and you'll be the only one on the planet who thinks that.

  Duion2 Apr 1

Of course you censored me, you banned me, so I could not respond. You did not read what I would have answered, since I could not answer, but I would have answered it if I could. "unconstructive", "negative" etc are all subjective and when questioned you ban me for questioning it, so I'm fed up with this bullshit.

And now you are messing with me, by stealing the request deletion button from me.

 MEDICINESTORM Apr 1

Now is your chance to respond. Tell me what you would have answered. You COULD have answered as soon as your temp-ban expired, but you didn't say anything new. I won't be giving you a place to shout insults at everyone, but you can tell me here. I'm listening.

As for the request deletion button, no one is stealing buttons from you. Please reread what I wrote above: "I'm sure it's too late now, but for future reference...". You don't have a request deletion button on your duion2 account because your duion2 account hasn't submitted anything. Are you assuming you would see a delete button on every submission on the site? Everyone would be able to delete other people's submissions. It only shows on your own account's submissions. My point was: "Why didn't you just click that button before you were banned?" You're saying you got banned because you tried to delete your submissions? None of them had been deleted at the time of your most recent ban. If you had, it would show up in the log. There were ZERO delete requests on your Duion account before I deleted it today.

  Duion2 Apr 1

How am I supposed to know that? I thought it is a general button, since the FAQ says if someone uploads your content without your permission you can request deletion and it would be impossible to do that if you could only request deletion on your own stuff.

And I don't say what I would have said, since even my non insults are seen as insults so what would a real insult be then?

  Duion2 Apr 2

Well now we have a problem, since my contributions are listed as submitted by anonymous, which is not true and I don't want them here. It is also problematic since people cannot attribute to the now nonexistent creator of the asset nor verify the source, since there is no way to check where it is from or who uploaded it. So now you need to delete them as well somehow.

MEDICINESTORM Apr 2

Ugh. Yes, we do have a problem. I seem to be the only admin still willing to deal with you and I'm starting to see why. READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING VERY CAREFULLY

Let me guess: Instead of ASKING me to remove your account, you decided to do something to a bunch of your submissions that would prompt people to flag your account as "compromized"? There's a removal request form in the FAQ (Which you knew about because you used it to start this conversation!), there's references to how to get your account removed in the forums, and I even directly offered to you to talk to me via PM before all this. I'm sure you'll claim you didn't know how to get your account removed, but I'm not buying it anymore.

Instead of clicking the Deletion button (which you knew was there before you were banned and chose not to use!) on the submissions you didn't want here anymore, you manipulated the submissions in a way that got your account flagged as "compromized". Which caused those submissions to be isolated for rollback. Good job, Duion; you played yourself.

If you ACTUALLY wanted to have your stuff removed, this wouldn't be an issue, but since you decided to post something that looked like a hack, you accomplished the opposite of what you intended. I don't know what you posted since the changes were rolled back.

It looks more and more like you were never concerned with your association with OGA or personal privacy at all. It looks more and more like what you REALLY wanted was to screw as many people over as you could. So... here's how it's going to be:

We have NO obligation to do anything for you at this point.

  1. Your personal information has been removed. Your right to be forgotten has been satisfied. All remaining materials you're referring to are not of a personal nature.
  2. The information you had on this site to begin with was not personal. The only information that could be said to be personal data was your email address. Even then, it was pseudonym based. Regardless, it has been removed.
  3. The GDPR and "Right to be forgotten" laws have no jurisdiciton over a US based site. The EU can block OGA from your access, but they cannot compel OGA to remove anything.
  4. The content (that I know of) you shared here has been released CC0. No one is required to attribute you. Even if they were, the license you released it under cannot be revoked. As far as you're concerned, it might as well have been deleted, but some anonymous user re-uploaded all of them per the terms of the license you chose.
  5. Since you wanted no personal information association with anything on this site, you got your wish. None of the isolated submissions mention you at all.

I MIGHT be persuaded to help you fix your problem even though I have NO OBLIGATION OR BENEFIT in doing so. Since I don't know the urls of the submissions (I can't just look at the Duion profile to see what's left, the profile is gone) I have to MANUALLY remove them one at a time. You've made being kind to you a pain in my ass. If you want to contest the presence of a submission, you will submit the URL of that submission to me here in this message thread ONE AT A TIME. I'll review it, and remove it. If you try to rush me, we're done.If you insult me or are rude in any way, we're done.If you use this site as a soapbox for shouting your drivel, we're done. How about it, Duion? What's that first URL?

MEDICINESTORM 10:11 am

Looks like we're done.

  Duion2 10:13 am

It would have been much more easy for you, if you just had deleted them all to begin with, I know that this function exists and you intentionally did not do it that way.

MEDICINESTORM 10:17 am

You haven't been paying attention. Yes, it would have been great if YOUR INTENTIONAL MANIPULATION OF THE SUBMISSIONS HAD NOT ISOLATED THEM FOR ROLLBACK. It would have been much more easy for you if you had just requested deletion on them all to begin with, you know that this function exists and you intentionally did not do it that way.

Step 1. Reread this thread.
Step 2. Realize you screwed yourself. I didn't screw you over. You screwed you over and made helping you difficult.
Step 3. Don't bother responding. WE'RE DONE.

Monday, April 1, 2019 - 18:40

OMG I did miss it. Even better!

Monday, April 1, 2019 - 18:24

Yes. It'll say "Art Challenge" even though this is a Game Jam. If Spring is cool with that, I'll add it right away.

Monday, April 1, 2019 - 18:20

Congratulations, Daft-Freak, and thanks to all the participants! Trophies have been awarded.

@Daft-Freak: I've gotta say I really appreciated you going the extra mile making not one, but two three functional demonstration sites of the designs ("Site Design: Light & Dark" by Daft-Freak, "OpenGameArt.org Dark theme" by DarkAgeGames, demo'd by daft-freak)

I think this challenge was a pretty big success; I'd be proud to have OGA use any one of the site layouts submitted. There really are some good ideas in these. Looking forward to incorporating all the best features. :)

Friday, March 29, 2019 - 22:46

Pretty fun. I didn't get to the end, I don't know what level I made it to, but it was the one with the balloons and the heavy dart projectile. No clue how to get past the last turret. Intuitive gameplay is a little sparse.

On that note, I don't feel it's the best game design to require the player find invisible objects with zero prior clues that they may need to do so to proceed.

Wednesday, March 27, 2019 - 11:40

Yaaay!

Anything in particular you would like on the front page announcement for this jam?
