Happy new year. This is the official OGA Winter Game Jam page.
You can discuss anything about the jam here, ask questions, etc.
Here is the link for the jam : https://itch.io/jam/opengameart-winter-game-jam-2021
I'm finishing up Mini Micro version 1.0 soon, and that includes finalizing the built-in assets and demos. I want to include a general-purpose tile set suitable for making mazes, islands, etc.
Research on that led me to this nice blog post on different tileset formats. He describes several options:
Good question! The answer is technically "No"... but they are free and open source! :)
From https://fonts.google.com/about"...All the fonts in our catalog are free and open source, making beautiful type accessible to anyone for any project..."
I'm sorry for taking up a spot in the "Favorite submitters this month" section. I don't actually have that many new favorites this month (it currently says 50, but I probably only have about 5). Some of my submissions were bumped up because of updates that I made. And, unfortunately, OpenGameArt.org doesn't know how to differentiate old favorites from new ones. So all the favorites for those submissions are counted for the month.
I was curious if anyone has any thoughts or experience using AI generated art images in games, especially as it pertains to license and copyright? I recently learned about artbreeder (https://www.artbreeder.com/), and was super impressed with some of the images it generates!
The artbreeder TOS states:
Each Artbreeder image is owned by the user who created that image.
You agree to license any images you create on Artbreeder under the Creative Commons CC0 license.
I'm producing a short film and am interesting in using some 2D graphics from this site - pleas can you confirm if that kind of usage is OK and if there are any parameters to be aware of?
It's on again!
The Third Annual Fall All-OGA Game Jam! begins on Oct 1st, 2020.
But you don't have to wait until then to get started. The jam rules explicitly allow work on sketches, design documents, paper level designs, and even expanding existing OGA art assets or creating brand new ones before the jam starts.

I'm working on an introductory book on coding, and for the last few chapters, I'm thinking about leading the reader through development of a town simulation game (think Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, Racoon Lagoon, etc.). This would be 2D, JRPG style.
I've looked around here and found a few tile sets that might help, but it's hard to assemble all the pieces in a consistent style. It's just a 3-chapter demo, so it doesn't need to be extensive, but I would need at least:
