I NEED IDEAS AND FEEDBACK

Sorry for the title. I am currently working on a survival/exploration game called "After Existance" or just "AfterExist". I have so far implemented simple flying creatures called "Walnats" with a singl giant eye that are harmless, a somewhat animated character with a giant eyeball, a very basic inventory system, plants I call "Styballs" which are just stalks with eyes on the end of them. They infrequently create "Styfruit" which is just a styball eye the player can eat. yeah. Im sure youve noticed the eye theme by now.

2D Platformer Art

So I've been pitifully attempting to make my own images for a game I've made, coding wise, however I'm finding it difficult to make images the blend together well and especially hard to make backgrounds.

If anyone has any advice, or links to useful tutorials it would be much appreciated.

I've attatched a screenshot of my game using various tile map images I've made. Some, such as the waterfall and gem, are animated.

I'm looking for anything that might help give inspiration to make either background images, tiled ground images ect...

Thank you! :)

Artist (multi-skilled) looking for work, willing to profit-share

I seek to join a team or project to build up my portfolio. Willing to work for future profit-percentages, or audition, or a flat per-asset fee (cheap!), or whatever.

I can model, rig, animate, program, compose and record music (electronic and otherwise), paint 2d, write, edit, etc.

While i work on my own projects, i would like to start contributing to others, to add a little variety to the mix.

If interested, PM or reply. I can assemble a portfolio for whatever services you'd require.

When is is overkill?

I’m working on some character assets right now, and whilst doing that I’ve always got in the back of my mind it’s versitility and how it can be used to create other characters and the possibie interactions with other things. I’ve heard of the term ‘asset flipping’ and from what I’ve read(not here) get the impression that it’s not something that is liked very much. Personally I don’t see it as a bad thing really, il like the idea of getting as much uses out of something and helps to keep some sort of consistency.

Is team up an option?

I am software dev for 6-7 years, and now want to try indie game development. So I need 2d artist, but I don't want just employee, I want team up with person. The idea was to discuss the ideas and solve some problems together(like write to twitter, find sound and look for publisher).

Help I can't draw furniture T~T

Hello there, I'm trying to draw a couch for this little 8-bit game I'm makin, except It's coming out terrible. I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips for drawing this style (since this is the first time I've ever attempted the 8-bit pixely kind of style before, and it's not going excellent right now)

Any and all advice would be amazing ^~^

Freely licensed character design templates?

Anyone know of any Freely licensed model-sheet-like templates for designing characters?

Start with something like this: https://frank-martin.deviantart.com/art/Character-Design-Tool-F7-200118699

Used it to create something like this: https://frank-martin.deviantart.com/art/Character-Visual-Design-001-201100673

Ideally realistically proportioned (ie. not anime) human adult male and female.

Open sprite sheet metadata format

I wanted to run an idea past the community here to get some feedback and see if this is something that would be useful to both artists and developers.

Problem:

There are tools for creating, packing, and exporting sprite sheets but no common format for the metadata. Here, most of the sprite sheets come with no metadata. In many cases this leaves developers with the task of slicing the sprites manually when the sheet is packed with non uniform tile size. Different game engines support different formats or have tools to deal with this, others not so much.

Error posting with iPad Air?

i use my iPad a lot when searching through OGA, on my iPad 2nd gen I can post fine, I'm doing this one now, but when ever I'm on my iPad Air it never saves my posts, so I'm unable to comment and stuff. I'm running all latest updates. I'm curious to know if anyone else is having the same issue or its just me.:)

Please help me with the pros and cons of different chiptune formats

Hi, so I've started making games again, but I'm having some doubts about the soundtrack; specifically, what format would be best for playback, and would like to hear people's thoughts about it. The formats I've tried so far and the pros and cons I see with them are:

.ogg (Digital Audio):

  • Pros: Flexibility, can be played back by anything, good performance
  • Cons: Size increases hugely with quality and length of a song, can't set loop point, really boring to make (imo)

.mod, .it: (Tracked format, originally Amiga)
